Our Investigative Programs
Youth & Family Advocacy
MJIP supports children, families, and caregivers navigating difficult situations involving child welfare, abuse or neglect concerns, juvenile matters, family instability, and other circumstances affecting a young person’s safety or well-being. We provide advocacy, case review, research, resource navigation, and investigative support while working with appropriate professionals and community partners when specialized intervention is needed.
Unresolved Cases Initiative
MJIP reviews unresolved homicides, violent crimes, missing-person and unidentified-person cases, and other matters where families are still searching for answers. We examine records, evidence, timelines, investigative gaps, and overlooked information to identify questions that may warrant further attention.
Conviction Integrity Initiative
MJIP advocates for individuals and families affected by suspected wrongful convictions and other potential miscarriages of justice. We independently review records, evidence, investigative gaps, conflicting accounts, and post-conviction issues to identify unanswered questions and develop information that may support further review or appropriate action.
Civil Rights & Accountability Initiative
MJIP supports individuals and communities facing potential civil rights violations, government misconduct, abuse of authority, or failures of accountability. We help document concerns, obtain and review records, examine the underlying facts, and identify appropriate avenues for advocacy, referral, or further action.

MJIP provides advocacy and investigative support to individuals and families navigating difficult questions involving justice, safety, and accountability. We use independent research, public records, evidence review, case analysis, and fact development to help people better understand what happened, identify what may have been overlooked, and determine what options may exist moving forward.

Every situation is different. MJIP begins by understanding the concerns of the individual or family seeking assistance. From there, we may review records and evidence, reconstruct timelines, research relevant facts, identify inconsistencies or unanswered questions, develop additional information, and connect people with appropriate legal, governmental, nonprofit, or community resources when needed.

MJIP communicates what we have learned and helps determine what comes next. This may include continued advocacy or investigation, additional records requests, referrals to attorneys or other professionals, coordination with agencies or organizations, or other appropriate action.
